How the culture of masculinity overshadows women achievements
The kiss that the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, forced on the player and top scorer, Jenni Hermoso, during the World Cup final ceremony is not only an act of disrespect and aggression towards the player, it is also a way for a "dominant man" to ruin a wonderful moment of celebration, joy and pride for a group of women who have achieved the best thing one can achieve in their career: winning the World Cup!
Consciously
or [probably] unconsciously, he wanted to
show that these champions and their top scorer will remain
"accessible" to him, under his authority, his "patriarchal"
sponsorship, even if they reach the top.
One of the consequences of this is that instead of reading about La Roja's brilliant achievement, its World Cup campaign, its tactics, its performances, its plans, its efficiency and its stamina (which is what we always read about men's sport), we are mainly reading about the "kiss" and about this disgusting man!
He has
managed to eclipse a historic moment in women's football and in the lives of
Hermoso, her colleagues and all those involved in this 2023 competition.
The worst thing is that there are some "useful idiots" who are defending him or "relativising" the affair!
